Hey guys, i would really appreciate it if you could post up your reasons :) i need this for my journal i gotta keep for my dissertation...going to do a 10,000 word essay on social gaming as a new social fashion :) ...thought it would be interesting, so please help me out XD thanx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Great question.
for me its an interactive, competitive, dynamic form of media consumption which has displaced watching TV for me.
The only thing I watch on TV these days is live sports. If i want to watch a "show" ... I do it on Demand when available or through DVR.
Most TV shows therse days are reality TV which is garbage. whenever I watch reality TV, I can feel my IQ drop a few levels.
Video Games are:
Interactive, competetive, dramatic, humorous, intense, and often challenging. Traditional TV cant offer that.

well, my reason is that i don't like to know ppl from my state, LMAO, nooo, i'm a kind of anticosial guys, parnets in the university tell me that.
but well.
1. for take relax time, i play Vgames, is just a life style.
2. games are awesome, it can helps you to imagine anything. and see the other face of the things.
3. in Online mode, i like to know ppl from other countries, but i don't talk a lot, well i do but not for chat, LMAO i'm too bad in that in my real life, chat to someone is not my best i think for that my parnets at school told me that.
 4. in Online mode, i can see how they can make diference in your skills, meaning that how you play and make that so fun.
but well, all still have the kid in us.
I just, i love play VGames. :)

well.. i play games mainly for the fun of it. they are intense, challenging and some funny... and i play online to share this experience with other people across the world aswell as being competetive with them...

One reason and one reason only:
-To satisfy my bloodlust by killing random people online. After discovering the adrenaline rush of online gaming in late 90's I have been hooked. A safe way to incite my fight or flight adrenaline rush and release all sorts of endorphins into my system. The cheapest high available for me. And much safer than other "extreme" sports or activities. |

To me, playing video games is a nice break from actual friend interaction. Like basketball with my friends. But video games let the experience be more informal, a little more impersonal. I can chat, have fun, be competitive with my friends, but be able to go to sleep, or do anything else in a literal flick of a switch. That kind of freedom is nice. Also, not knowing who im playing with gives me a little mystery into who im talking with, so its also a learning experience , if that makes sense?!

I play games online because all of my friends are giant noobs. I only know one guy in real life that can come close to beating me in any FPS, and it's no fun playing a bunch of people that have no idea what they are doing.

One reason why I play video games is storyline. Most games these days usually put out unusual plots where no movie director wouldn't thing of making an actual movie like God of War 3 or Uncharted 1 & 2. These games are like a movie to me. Why should I pay $10 - $14 to see a movie which would last about 80mins thru close to 3hrs? I rather play worthy games which are better than movies and last longer than 3hrs. Most games last 10hrs thru over 100hrs of gameplay. Do the math.

its much more interactive than TV, which i like. i think mostly i just got hooked at an early age. the online aspect introduced even more ways to enjoy a game and got me even more hooked

Because bots are stupid. Jk U can say it's a sport for some ppl. It relaxes me and keeps my mind out of the problems and stuff that is going on around us. Like Rudy said we all have some childhood in us. And did I mention the bots are just dumb.

I play videos games because it's fun and i've enjoyed playing ever since i was a kid.
I play online because i get the opportunity 2 meeting new people from different backgrounds and countries(like you  ,my bro rudy and others).I learn some thing new everyday from the people that i meet online(good or bad).as for reasons hmmm lets see.... 1. i'm a bit of a trophies wh0re and must get as many as i can 2. try to be the best at the all games i play and i like the challenge from the games i play. 3.a way 2 take all my anger and rage out on people with out getting put in jail  . LoL4.laughing at all the people that get pi$$ed at their teammates that act like fools and don't do any thing all game long  .so good!! HAHAHA...that's all i can think of right now. To echo what has already been said, playing with other people creates a more dynamic environment, compared a static bot. Also, without e comity of players, I prob wouldn't play anymore. UT3 has become more than a game; it is a portal to meet distant friends, even if I cannot see you all.
