This is ridiculous, we got non native United States citizens whose secondary language is English, and I have NO problem reading there posts. Then look at a few native born (US) English speaking (kinda), and I have to read there posts a multiple of times to get any meaning out of them. Come on people, we already look bad enough.

Not necessarily as bad as "will" for "well?" That wrong word in the first post might of partially been a joke/ spot the grammar error type thing lol. I have to admit it. Native born American members spelling worse than native French members is kind of sad.

LMAO - what a joke. Arizona passes a law that compels it's law enforcement to enforce existing Federal law and the world is about to end.
We seem to have forgotten the part about "illegal" being a crime. Let alone the fact that yet another law enforcement officer was shot yesterday... by an illegal alien. WTF?
These law enforcement officials need reasonable cause to inquire about citizenship. In addition, this is not a primary offense and the "suspects" were already detained for breaking some other law.
Hmmm... what's reasonable cause? How about a mini van speeding. The mini van is pulled over and it is found to have exceeded the maximum occupancy... by about 10 people! The driver has no identification, which is required by law to operate a vehicle anywhere in America. The officer then asks if anyone else has identification (presumably so they can drive). No answer given and he gets a blank stare from everyone. Not a single person in the vehicle is able to answer him in english. Speaking english is part of becoming a citizen of the United States.
It's reasonable to assume that these folks are "likely" illegal aliens. The new law only requires the officer to check with the Federal Government to ensure that the occupants of the vehicle are in the U.S. legally. If they are, they get a ticket and fine for not carrying their identifying documents AS ALREADY REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW. If not, they get turned over to the Border Control for a hot meal, a comfy bed and a ride home.
How is that profiling? No mention of race, color, creed, religion, etc.
make sure you understand the law before taking a side.
Edit: "Documented Aliens" are required by Federal Law to carry and produce their "Documents" on demand by any U.S. law enforcement official.

Thats one thing I never understood, over 2 years at my job talking to people on the phone I get cursed out for not being able to speak Spanish or Hmong, getting told on how its unfair and even being called a racist. Pretty soon its going to be a requirement to learn these languages to get a job.

I think he was commenting on how this thread was derailed. The purpose of this thread isn't Mexican racism or even about them. It's about the growing problem of illiterate native Americans (not Native Americans/ Indians either). Maybe, we should force people (pretty unfair) or make it harder to drop out of high school. (not so unfair) Alternately, we could work extending the school days an hour or so. (I'd rather we not extend the school year, let alone go all year. I never liked the idea as a student and I'd rather not force upon the ones going today.)

I'd only mention bad use of English grammar, spelling and punctuation to someone whose first language is English or who is supposedly fluent in English. |

I understand the hating all the hate part, but I have to agree with Lunchy on his hatred of excessive bad grammar. Keyword being "excessive." If you're supposedly both English-speaking and American-born and only a handful of individuals can actually read your post, then there's a problem. As much as I don't like the idea of extending school days or years, at this point, that might just be what the doctor ordered. |
