So far windows 7 Ultimate X64 has been rock solid.  Amazingly, not a single complaint **looks around for some wood to knock on**

FWIW - I'm ditching ALL windows based OS systems from my home and office.  Digging the MAC OS for everything outside gaming.

It depends on how you use your pc ?
-Graphism ?
-Internet ?
-Gaming ?
-Text ?

You should downloading : Google Chromium, Gimp, Babiloo (dictionnary). You should go on The Software library, a lot of programs easy to install ;)

Actually i'm trying to install skype

For internet, you can dl Google Chromium or keep firefox.
For gaming, i'll not lie... Game on linux are not very good. I much prefer use my Windows 7 or Xp for gaming.
For movie making: i don't know. ^^
For downloading : I saw some torrent programms, but i prefer using Megaupl0ad or MegaVide0.

Resume :
I advise you that Ubuntu is a very good OS for surfing on internet and do some stuff. Windows still very good for using Photoshop, Sony Vegas Pro etc... So the best way is to do a Dual Boot Seven-Ubuntu.

i already have Chrome, and i adore it.   been using it for about 2 years.  my XPS is already set up for a dual boot.  i love having that option now.  but what i enjoy the most is now i actually have two OS's that i can use for different functions.  leaves the door wide open.

Been doing everything on my MacBook Pro for about 6 months now.  I have it running OS X and Windows 7 simultaneously via an app called VMWare Fusion.  Loaded it up with 8GB RAM and allocated 3 gigs to the windows OS.  Can stay in the MAC OS and open all the windows programs seamlessly or switch over the the Windows OS at will.  Pretty amazing stuff.  Funny that my Mac runs Windows better than any PC I ever bought or built.  Even in the background!

When doing development, we test against all browsers in both operating systems.  I prefer Safari over Chrome, but prefer Chrome over FireFox.  Safari and Internet Explorer (for both operating systems) are easier to develop and write code for because they are more forgiving.  Chrome and FireFox require you to be very precise in your coding and do not support mixing older code or routines with new.

For personal web surfing and general goofing off, I use Safari.

Mac OS is tha best...period! Uses RAM and resources designed so Mac so smoothly that its virtually bug-free. Windows 7 is rock tho, i'm impressed cos imo its the best since Windows 2000. For gaming you cant beat PCs but for everything else get a Mac. For DIY appz, programming, customising then yeah Unix based OS are tops.
I might just DL Ubuntu for my PC but like Ether said I need some useful tips on programmes

The Mac price always affraid me. I'm not trolling but seriously this is really expensive. However this is a really good OS with a pretty bad harware (compare to the price). i use two mac 27" on my school, this is good for graphism but only for it.
I much prefer this one :
Box : Thermaltake Armor A90
HDD : Western Digital Caviar RE4 S-ata 500 Go - 64mo cache x2
SSD : Intel X25 V 40Go
Proc : AMD Phenom x6 1055T
Motherboard : MSI 870a Fuzion
RAM : Corsair XMs3 6GO DDR3 Pc10600
Gaming Card : Radeon™ HD 5750 1Go

Macs are overrated , they just make things simple for an OS, the hardware isnt anything that special. Its just aesthetically pleasing to the eye

IDK about the MAC sucks argument.  After sitting in front of literally hundreds of PCs since they were invented, I have never been more impressed than I am with the MAC.  I've built some awesome gaming rigs over the years and I've bought some awesome PCs too.

Here's where the MAC is superior from my perspective:
  • It just works... every time
  • It's an easy transition from PC to a simple MAC OS
  • You can run multiple operating systems simultaneously (not dual boot - I mean real time)
  • I run Windows 7 as an app, and then open the apps I'm still forced to use from Windows for development.  Then I just tab through the MAC and Windows apps at will.
  • Only a handful of known viruses written for the MAC - ever
  • Hardware is hardware, but it is pretty to look at.
  • Macs manage memory far better than a PC and they have tight controls on apps designed for the MAC.  No memory leaks on a MAC.
  • I screwed up and installed MS Office 2011 for MAC.  It took a dump in 3 weeks, corrupting many of its own files.  Simple solution: popped an extra hard drive I had laying around into the laptop and restored the entire machine in under an hour from the former hard drive.  Can't do that with a PC.
I just got done building a high end website that has over 83,000 lines of code.  All of the graphics, design, layout and coding was done on a 15" i7 MacBook Pro with 8Gb RAM.  This is simply the best piece of computer hardware I have ever used.

My arguement isnt that Mac's are inferior to PC, they are on the exact same level as PC. My arguement is that the only difference between a mac and pc is that Apple knows how to market their product. If people took 10 minutes to learn about how a virus actually works and how to use a PC without getting it infected by being stupid enough to go to a bad website right off the bat they wouldnt need a mac. Your website design could easily be done on a PC with the same specs. Whats funny is that apple can price gouge every product they put on the market simply on marketing , in that sense Steve Jobs is a genius in my regard. And as far as looks go a PC can look anyway you want it to. HP has the same all in one monitor like apple only its touch screen, and looks just as good ( but that is opinion i guess)

And last but not least: If you cant click a button that says scan on an anti virus program, your either lazy or have undergone a labotomy

When i was shopping for a Laptop a few months ago, i saw a good PC for about $800 and a
Mac with damn near the exact same specs and a smaller screen for almost double the price.
Mac works nice and i like how things are setup/organized but the price is beyond retarded.
I never had an issue with a PC that was serious, people who don't take care of there computers or don't have an anti-virus program tend to have more issues...
IF it were not for the price, i would like Mac just as much as PC, till then tho.....

There's a saying "you get what you pay for" macs dont simply look good. imo I luv PCs and Macs too but if you've messed around with PCs and know the hassle u get from a m/c that relies on overbloated, suspect, vulerable software and the painful reinstallation process then u know why Macs win. Ppl want m/cs that do the job, my days of buildling PCs for a hobby have come to an end. If u want custom then PCs, games then PCs. I could go on a rant about Microsoft and their aggressive control over the marketplace which is not in our best interests. But seriously Steve Jobs and his crew understand the future and that has always been the seamless integration of computers in businesses and homes and for leisure. Ubiquitous devices are where its at and Microsoft are just getting there. RE OS -If they can build on the success of Windows 7 and start supporting OS properly instead of updates the sizeof other OS or insisting on 3rd party providers issuing disks with m/c then for me they'd be back in the game.
