the meeting for reducing the CO² emission is about to happen.

here are "efforts" the main countries plan to implement by 2020:
US: -17% (by 2005) equal to -5% to 1990 (Kyoto)
CHINA: - 40% by 1990 (hard to control)
japan: -25% by 1990
EU: -20% by 1990

Hard not to care... problem is that the countries that do care have a very minute impact on the larger outcome. Even if the UK stopped all emissions, I think China could more that make up for it in a week.

China is the problem... most people know that though.

exactly and china's car stock is roughly 32 million in a nation of over 1billion!
The western half of the country is still developing and let's not forgwt rapidly growing India with over a billion population and similar stats in terms of car ownership.

As these countries economies grow at break neck speeds they will consume more than just Gasoline. (steel, copper, aluminum, coal, and dozens of other natural resources)

Nothing glorious leader Obama can do to stop it.

The global warming scare is western politicians excuse for imposing more control over western economies.

I voted "I care" but not for the reason you intended.  IMO it should have been cancelled until a thorough investigation of the scientists and institutions caught up in the climate-gate scandal is done.  Charges should be brought against all those who are found to have lied, tampered with data and gotten rid of data after Freedom of Information requests had been made.  The level
of fraud, if found, could make the Bernie Madoff ponzi scheme look like a drop in the bucket.  If found guilty they should all go to prison for many years.

And by the way, China's proposal of a 40 percent reduction is not what it seems...they are proposing a 40% reduction in INTENSITY of emissions, whatever that means, as opposed to a 40% reduction in actual emissions.

Global warming doesn't exist. If there are trying to reduce air pollution, then I'm all for it.

According to James Delingpole at the Telegraph there are two lawsuits in the offing against scientists at the Climate Research Unit (where the emails and docs were hacked) for criminal fraud.  http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/jamesdelingpole/100018556/climategate-its-all-unravelling-now/

According to Mr. Delingpole the lawsuits will claim that scientists at the CRU:

"....have gained funding and career advancement by twisting data, hiding evidence, and shutting out dissenters by corrupting the peer-review process...."

Hopefully these are the first of many and Copenhagen will be stopped in its tracks.

LOL, Is THAT all you can come up with??? Smile  Aside from the fact that it is NOT just one scientist but many scientists AND, by a**ociation the very institutions they represent.  This may well be only the tip of the iceberg, NASA has been stonewalling on a Freedom of Information request for TWO years!! We shall see in the coming weeks and months just how corrupt this entire process has been!  Have a nice day.Smile

Edit:  Today I found a really good article that provides some context to some of the quotes we've been seeing in the media that were taken from the emails of the scientists at the CRU and elsewhere. http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/017/300ubchn.asp?pg=1
Enjoy

The link above is to a very interesting story in the National Post (a Canadian newspaper) which  shows how the global warming enthusiasts have infiltrated Wikipedia with their propaganda...If true, then it's a timely reminder to be always cautious and skeptical about what those in authority would have us believe. :)

I'm not should what you mean by this post Han. I know this, however, the protesters at Copenhagen have all shown their hands. They cheered Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez like a  conquering hero!

The ninth largest oil producer in the world, a nation where 60% of GDP comes from petroleum production and 80% of export earnings. He has done nothing to impede carbon emissions, quite the contrary, his country and more specifically his government is a chief source of carbon emissions since the industry is now nationalized.

They cheered him because he is an avowed and proud socialist.

Global Warming, the fear mongering  surrounding climate change is nothing more than a cover to extend more and more government dominion over commerce and free enterprise.

Sorry for the ambiguity... When you said there's nothing Obama can do to stop it, I assumed you think it should be stopped.

Well said Fluffy.  This
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/janetdaley/6845967/Therell-be-nowhere-to-run-from-the-new-world-government.html is an article in a British newspaper that speaks directly to what you are saying...Ultimately, the whole global warming hysteria is just an excuse to extend the power and reach of the UN.  The ICC (International Criminal Court) is another such bureacracy intended to take power from elected governments and put it in the hands of unelected, unaccountable totalitarian dictators.

My post is really in reference to danjel's post about China.
There's nothing that Obama can do to stop China's development nor India's.

They are the real emitters of Co2 and that will continue irrespective of Copenhagen.

Having said all that I still believe that 'Copenhagen' and all that it stands for is subterfuge to impose an economic order. not to 'save the earth'

Your'e missing the point. I'm not FOR pollution, quite the contrary. I'm all for preserving the environment and protecting biodiversity.

What I'm opposed to is HOW. The measures that most radical environmentalists want to promote are
have nothing to do with protecting the environment but all to do with advancing an economic agenda.

so you don't think that we're adding fuel to the fire? you just think that it's not real? i think it's a good thing that people are worried about global warming. it's going to help us find a better energy source much faster than if everyone didn't give a shi t.

An oversimplification of the discussion using a Carrol Diagram.  Enjoy!
