Secession petitions now filed for all 50 states

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/secission-petitions-filed-20-states-190210006.html" rel="nofollow - Petitions signed by hundreds of thousands of Americans seeking permission for their states to peacefully secede from the union have now been filed for all 50 states on http://www.whitehouse.gov/" rel="nofollow - the White House website .

The secession petition push began last week on the site's https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/" rel="nofollow - We The People section after a Slidell, La., man  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-louisiana-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/1wrvtngl" rel="nofollow - filed a petition on Nov. 7 to allow Louisiana to secede . Residents from other states followed suit.

As of Wednesday afternoon,  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-north-carolina-withdraw-united-states-and-create-its-own-new-government/rx1KDYTs" rel="nofollow - North Carolinahttps://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-tennessee-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/7xsNwkJ8" rel="nofollow - Tennesseehttps://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-alabama-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/2TvhJSSC" rel="nofollow - Alabamahttps://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-georgia-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/pgJ9JLY3" rel="nofollow - Georgiahttps://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-louisiana-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/1wrvtngl" rel="nofollow - Louisiana and  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-texas-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/BmdWCP8B" rel="nofollow - Texas —all states that voted for former Gov. Mitt Romney—as well as  https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-state-florida-withdraw-united-states-america-and-create-its-own-new-government/D87Rv7yJ" rel="nofollow - Florida each had accumulated more than 25,000 signatures, the threshold needed to trigger an official response from the Obama administration. Collectively, the secession petitions now have more than 700,000 digital signatures.

Texas is in the lead with more than 99,000, but Gov. Rick Perry said on Tuesday that he does not support secession.

"Gov. Perry believes in the greatness of our Union and nothing should be done to change it," a http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/wp/2012/11/13/rick-perry-opposes-texas-secession/" rel="nofollow - statement from the governor's office read . "But he also shares the frustrations many Americans have with our federal government."

Meanwhile, https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/peacefully-grant-city-austin-texas-withdraw-state-texas-remain-part-united-states/TDD212hQ" rel="nofollow - residents of Austin , Texas' stubbornly liberal stronghold, have petitioned the White House to allow the city to "withdraw from the state of Texas [and] remain part of the United States."

Of course, the petitions are little more than symbolic—and nothing new. Similar petitions were filed after the 2004 and 2008 elections. And at least https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/strip-citizenship-everyone-who-signed-petition-secede-and-exile-them/ZbMjcwPf" rel="nofollow - one petition filed on the site asks that the president sign an executive order to strip U.S. citizenship from anyone who signed a petition to secede and requests that they are "peacefully deported."

Secession, though, is not the only thing people are petitioning the White House for. Included among the 140 petitions currently displayed on the site: two seeking https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/federally-legalize-marijuana/Y3KVHZhl" rel="nofollow - federal legalization of marijuana , one asking for https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/stop-drone-strikes/QGjycNt4" rel="nofollow - the halt of U.S. drone strikes and one demanding https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/recount-election/ZQmy0Mlv" rel="nofollow - a recount of the election .

Whether or not you think this is going anywhere...

You better be aware there are many who are alarmed at the direction this country is heading.  Since the first world war, American politicians have been pushing policies that are taking this country farther and farther from the principles set out in the Constitution.

Don't think for one minute this is not a serious issue.

I saw a map of the US showing who won the majority in every county in every state and we aren't as divided as some think. The entire center of Alabama voted Obama (Birmingham is in the center) with only the the tip and bottom of Alabama voting Romney. My point is that whoever signed that petition wanting Alabama to exceed from the united states is probably one of those damn Mississippi Indians always holding Alabama back like wtf give Alabama the f***ing lottery and give us scratch offs!!!
Sorry for the rant

I definitely prefer the Republican platform to the Democratic platform.
However its laughable when Romney is the best they can do.
Some of the repubs financial policies are retarded (lowering taxes in the middle of a war?) and their views on women and immigration ought to be revamped.
I still have faith in the republican party though, wheres Lincoln when you need him lol.

Abortion I support: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/14/savita-halappanavar-death-irish-woman-denied-abortion-dies_n_2128696.html .. Few days ago women who was denied abortion because it was catholic country dies
Legalize marijuana I support: The war on drugs has been in utter failure. We are constantly spending money on try to stop the drug cartels and gangs when it could be spent on way more productive things. We all know the facts about marijuana. Its safer then Alcohol, Prescription drugs, & cigarettes. All legal. People back then said the same thing about Alcohol..and guess what now?..History is repeating itself. 2 states already passed full legalization of marijuana..and just like alcohol, it started off with little by little states finally passing Alcohol as okay. Cant deny the facts and science about weed. If its regulated just like Alcohol. that will not only save soooo much money but it will bring in ass loads by taxes. Once this legal market is created..jobs will be created.  Plus Obama doesnt even support it anyway..so he got nothing to do with it lol? None of the parties have a stance about the subject.

and health care I cant really say. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

If the Republican party wants to survive, they need to let go of solely representing the interests (or having that be their main focus) of the top 1% and try to encompass the middle class more. And also drop the f*cking extremism on a variety of fronts.

We are DOOMED!!!! RUN FOR THE HILLS!! It's whatever it's too late the bible describes all of this so it's meant to happen. Good day sir's

You can't stop change  >_>

If anyone's against marijuana they should be against alcohol as well.

and abortion is only ok if the birth will harm/kill the mother/child, or If the mother was raped. Abortion shouldn't be for dumb b****es that didn't feel like using a condom and want an easy way out.

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years.

During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. From dependence back into bondage"

The above is usually attributed to Alexander Tyler, although that is not entirely accurate (see http://www.lorencollins.net/tytler.html" rel="nofollow - http://www.lorencollins.net/tytler.html  for that discussion).  However, regardless of the the source, I believe that there is some truth to this being the direction we are heading.

As for the rest of you, please don't misunderstand, I don't really believe any states are ACTUALLY going to secede.  Just take very seriousely the issues behind these petitions which are the gradual erosions of our Constitutional freedoms.

LOL That's ok, I'll answer you anyway...I happen to AGREE with you and the important point, whether you agree with legalization of marijuana or not, is that the people of the states in question decided for themselves the issue.  Same goes for legalizing gay marriage, the PEOPLE of the states decided through their votes to legalize it.  This is as it should be.

The federal gov't has, over the last century, taken onto itself many things it has  no business in.  The Constitution is a very short document laying out pretty clearly what the Federal gov't's responsiblilites are, everything else should be decided at the state level.  Period.

weed went illegal because that generation thought that if you smoked weed, you'd get addicted to crack and other hardcore drugs.. they didn't do their research, health wise .. either, I'd say why not make it legal, it's not that big of a deal anymore.. plus it would chill out a lot of f***ing people that needs to chill, like my damn coworkers

I doubt weed will be legalized, capitalism demands that certain drugs be banned because it is not productive for a worker to be on it. Coffee is a drug but it is legal because it keeps you awake and productive. The only exception is alcohol, which has become too social for it to be banned again. Take a sociology class and you'll see I am right.

Also, the way the education system is now there is absolutely no reason to go to college. Like more than 70% of college graduates get a job that has nothing to do with their major so basically they get a 20-50,000$$ bill for being a dumbass and getting drunk and high. Sweet. I'd rather take my chances working for Honda. And I'm not just saying this to sound cool but I am more of a man than you will ever be. I'm 23 years old, have a great job, and just finished a custody battle over my two daughters with a psycho and not to mention my intellect would blow your face up your ass

Enough then.  If your sorry tale is true then I have no cruel interest in adding to your present (and no doubt future) woes with a smart-ass response...this time.

You say you were being facetious.  It did not come across that way.  In general,  nasty/mean posts WILL elicit a nasty/mean response.

Do you remember a couple of months ago the had the strings of legal fake marijuana. How many. Retards went bonkers and ended up dying from it because they couldn't handle the responsibility. I build houses for a living, do honestly think I want someone stoned forgetting everything I tell them to do 5 seconds later? Or doing some stupid weed powered troll physics instead of what I tell them to do? It's not safe for anyone. And besides how much money do the court systems take in because of drug abuse programs. 20$ a piss pop, 3-4 times a week. Would you like your kids smoking pot in school and losing their virginity at 10 or 11? Probrobly not. if you're any kind of father you need to focus on what's best for them, not your life. And you will be forced to pay for health insurance whether you like it or not so how is that not telling you what to do. And the same for gun control, they are going to take our weapon rights away, and that's not telling you what to do? Go vote for someone because he tries to talk wanksta see how far that gets you to being free. You'll just end up in a socialist (slave based) government. Good luck in the concentration camps with Anne frank and her tuna fish shoes BRAH......

Wut ?

How does alcohol not have similiar and or even much worse effects ?
I think some of the things you said are a little far fetched, like virginity loss at 10 or 11 ??
It'd be natural for smoking weed to be forbidden at your workplace as well, of course some will still do it..just as some will drink alcohol, it's irrelevant..

Alcohol is a much much more dangerous drug than weed

I agree both are detrimental to your health. Just like texting and driving;) I'm not sayin that weed is the worst drug because its not. But it's one step closer to where I don't want to be.

well you're making it seem like everyone is going to be stoned all day everyday just because marijuana is legal. just because something is legal doesnt mean its going to become like water. alcohol is legal and not everyone is drunk all day everyday. lol

and if anything, I doubt the "abusers" of marijuana have waited for it to be legal, if anything they've been abusing it for a while.

makes no sense to complain about something coming out when something worse is already out there

Haha well you don't need to be a pot head to be in favour of legalizing weed, I rarely smoke it anyway

It's about the the principle, why would you legalize alcohol but not weed, when alcohol is a much more dangerous and harmful drug
It makes no sense..

Amen, I tried weed twice.. wasn't my thing, but I'm all for it to be legalized, cops should be out doing better things than worrying about people growing or carrying pot, maybe pedophiles and domestic abuse can go a little higher on the "to do" list for them.

Penguin pretty much sealed the deal with his post.

lol at the pot debate... good food and clean water is what we need to be healthy... a glass of whine is acually pretty good for you... i've always kept my property and house drug free... i don't judge people period though! drug addiction can cause people to have all kinds of problems... its more the hard drugs then it is pot though... i don't see why some people need to get drunk or high all the time? maybe they just have problems coping with every day life? some people do have it hard though... if we would help eachother more and not worry as much about our differences maybe we wouldn't need to debate every little detail?

lets all just... get er done :)

Don't think for one minute this is not a serious issue.

It's not a serious issue lol. It's only serious with old people. Like shut the f*** up you're old, let the stronger smarter faster more technologically advanced generations take it from here.

....says the college dropout cuz his girfriend got knocked up...oh EXCUSE me younger, faster, stronger, smarter, technologically advanced young man.

Lol whatever you say bud. But seriously, how could you not tell I was joking around about old people? Or maybe you took my post as being directed towards you? Anyways basically what I was saying is that majority of young people are democratic so you will see far right conservatives dwindle away. This isn't the first time this has happened in America you know. The more advanced we become and the more populated our world becomes the more changes you will see in our society. I know this is a crude example but there is a reason why ant colonies are ran the way they are. I'm not saying that is the future but if technology doubles in quality and performance roughly every 2 years (Moores Law) then imagine where we will be in the next 10 years and then think of how politics will need to change not to mention the worlds population in the next ten years.

For a start, we need to fix America's education system. Today, intelligence is determined mostly by math skills but that is harmful to the quality of education and even the economy. There are different types of intelligence (perception, creativity, math, memory, analytical, sense of direction, reading and comprehension etc) that are left untapped. An example on how to fix this is to require children to take tests every year or two to determine the skills that they are naturally good at and alter their classes accordingly. Of course you would still need to take your basic algebra, history, and English classes but it leaves more room for advanced classes better preparing you for a career. I like the way Germany's education system is set up because once you reach 18 you can either decide to graduate or stay in school an additional 2 years to learn even more which would work perfectly with America's growing 2 year college programs.

Sorry for the rant, I've drank some wine

Tunafish,

There are plenty of things it would be nice to have.  The question is - Who should pay for it?  I might sound like a broken record but, there is no question that the US Constitution lays out pretty clearly the responsibilities of the federal gov't. There is also no question that over the last hundred years the feds have expanded their role in our, and the world's lives, way past their mandate.

If individual states want to raise taxes to pay for an extra two years of free college then good for them.  If Massachusetts decides they want mandatory health insurance for the people of their state, then good for them. Same goes for a whole host of issues...most of what concerns the people of this country should be decided at the state, county and city level - NOT at the federal level.

The size of the federal gov't should be cut in half.  Just a FEW examples:

Why the heck do we still have military bases all over Europe?  Since WWII our being over there enables European gov'ts to get away with spending practically nothing for their own defense.

Why the hell do we pay billions in foreign aid?  We're NOT the freakin' United Nations and we have no business trying to police the world. If countrys around the world don't know how to govern themselves then that is THEIR problem.    All it does is enable corrupt regimes to stay in power.

 These secession petitions probably won't come to anything.  However,  they ARE an indication that more and more people are starting to wake up and realize that we have been slowly getting further away from our founding principles.  Scoff if you will, but don't doubt for one minute that there are people in this country who take  these issues VERY seriously.

I think one of our best beers is Fin Du Monde ("End of the World") and it is 9%, I think what this means is that in general all our beers are higher in ABV , but even in america you can find a 25% beer but believe me it will cost you alot per bottle.

I dont agree with this statement.

1) Networking has been around forever, who you know how you interact with them and its relation to status in society and power. Just because we do it with technology (e.g facebook) doesn't mean networking was not around.

2) If you have sex you are going to have babies. The founding fathers of your country would be total idiots to think after colonizing that a space would not get filled up eventually.

I think you're taking Tuna's statement a little too literally. Networking has been around since the dawn of man. Human beings are social animals. We all know that.

Keeping that in mind, there is no way in hell Ben Franklin sat back in his rocking chair while puffing on a tobacco filled pipe, envisioning 16 year old girls (over 200+ years away) spending all day on a computer application (known as Facebook) talking/socializing with their friends.

On the second disagreement you have a valid point because it's easy to think that if people f*ck like rabbits, population growth will be positive. But the founding fathers didn't have access to the statistics that we have today. They did though, know of the Black Death, which caused negative population growth (in Europe at least) some centuries back.

India and China (Tuna did refer to the world pop, not US) have 35% of the world's population. They are also halfway around the globe and a long, long boat-ride away.  The founding fathers had their hands full building a nation. A mostly empty nation, except for all the Indians being ****d, killed, and forced to relocate. I highly doubt social networking (Facebook) and overpopulation (what we know of it today) were on their mind. Beating those damn British, inking the constitution, and taking advantage of slave labor was on their mind though.

And the idea of overpopulation is highly subjective as well. What one might think of as too crowded, another might think of as comfy. I would never live in Chicago. Too damn crowded. I'm a suburbs kind of guy. I like my space. And the son of cattle rancher from Nebraska would call me nuts for thinking that my suburban home is spacious.

Interesting read on overpopulation.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpopulation" rel="nofollow - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overpopulation Lots of differing opinions.
